This past Sunday, ABC news released an exclusive interview with Trump which spanned over 30 hours. During the interview, George Stephanopoulos, talked to the President about his taxes. As of yet, Trump has not released his tax returns as he’d promised to do during the campaign.
One of the suspicions for this lack of transparency is that Trump, who ran under the pretense of being a great businessman, may not be as successful as he boasted. This aspect has been reasonably documented elsewhere, so I’ll focus on an oddity of his boasting instead. Trump often exaggerates many things, but what is the most bizarre is when he exaggerates the nonsensical.
You’ll be very impressed with the job I’ve done
Take the next clip as an example, in the interview, when asked about his taxes, Trump claims the Democrats are after him and that for some odd reason (he claims his lawyers won’t allow it) he cannot release them. The bizarre part is his boasting that when we see them (tax returns) we’ll “be very impressed with the job” he’s done.
This is bizarre because the tax returns for which we’ve been waiting are those prior to his election. I know some folks will say he didn’t mean while in office, he must have meant before. OK, fine, but how could we be impressed with the job he did as far as his tax returns are concerned. That would only concern me if I were a shareholder of his company (which is private). Moreover, according to him, his returns will show his business acumen as being “much much bigger, much much better than anybody…” This is nonsense. It makes zero sense. Bigger and better than what?
And yet, this has become the norm. The norm is when Trump speaks, he tends to exaggerate. That’s just the way he speaks and we’re supposed to be OK with this. Never mind the fact that none of his exaggerations (or manner of speaking) make any sense.
