About a month ago I wrote about a motor-less water pump. Moving water from one location to another has always been important, even more so, uphill. Water is an element we have been trying to harness since we grew out of a single-cell organism. Water gives us life, helps us to cultivate life, and feed life.
This is why I found this next video fascinating. What if we could convert, and even store, the energy of water for later use. We often covert the energy of water into electricity through hydro-turbines. Using a Trompe, you can covert water energy into compressed air and store it for later use.
One of the challenges of a future without fossil fuels is storage. Through time, nature has done the storing for us. Fossil fuels are nothing more than one-time-use batteries. Compressed air has emerged as a potential solution for this storage problem and whether we use solar power to compress the air or we use water, the outcome is the same, finding a reusable battery. Perhaps trompes are the way to go!
