The final round of the MotoGP season is this weekend

November 17 will mark the final round of the 2019 MotoGP World Championship. All three main Championships have been settled at the top, though bridesmaid places have not. The other World Championship still open is the MotoE Championship. But truth be told, nobody really cares :\ (at least not yet). Valencia seems to have a deal with MotoGP's CEO, Carmelo, similar to Qatar's; where each are guaranteed the final and first round of the Championship respectively. Valencia also marks the first official test of the 2020 season. It...

Racing is a tough business

A while back I wrote about how quickly things change in MotoGP, while at the same time remaining the same. Today I wanted to talk about how tough the racing business is. In the US, most people follow ball-and-stick sports, though there are some ardent fanatics of NASCAR. The business of racing a vehicle, whether on a track or dirt, is an expensive proposition. This is one of the reasons you often see racing drivers/riders covered up with sponsor decals and long family racing dynasties. Any sponsor is...

The cost of following

The 2019 MotoGP World Champion and best motorcycle rider in the world paid the price for what the British refer to as "cheeky". The MotoGP circus is visiting the Sepang International Circuit this weekend. This is the penultimate round of the 2019 championship, with the final round taking place in Valencia. Mark Marquez wrapped the 2019 Championship 2 races-ago, at the Japanese Grand Prix. Which means the remaining races; Phillip Island, Sepang and Valencia are basically for "fun". Fun was exactly what he was having during today's qualifying...

Which planet is closest to Earth?

Like all questions in life, the answer is "it depends". It depends at which point in their respective orbits you measure. Furthermore, as CGP Grey points out, the diameter of a planet's orbit has a huge impact on its relative distance to other planets. And for this reason one should ask not which plant is closest to Earth, rather which planet is on average most closest to Earth.

Keeping data safe starts with you

Today, there are more ways to keep our data safe and private than ever before. From password managers, to multi-factor authentication, to encryption everywhere, to bio-metrics authentication, to VPNs, to encrypted DNS. And yet, as the ways to keep your data safe increase or become more easily accessible, so do the ways in which we more freely give that very data away. Though voice assistants are nothing new, their popularity has grown exponentially in the past couple of years. It makes sense. As the world becomes ever more...

Follow up from the yesterday’s post

Yesterday I posted about how amazing of a feat it was for Mr. Kipchoge to have ran a full marathon in less than 2 hours. Today I wanted to post a video that gives you a much better understanding of what I wrote about. I hope you enjoy it and like me, agree that his feat is inspirational.

Do not be fooled, what Eliud did is amazing.

Already, there are articles out there which claim the feat achieved by Eliud Kipchoge, a 26.2 mile run in less than 2 hours this past Saturday, is fake. Crazy. The media these days will say and do anything to get clicks. Not us. On Saturday, in Vienna, Mr. Kipchoge, achieved something some of us can only dream of. First, let me give you some context, the legend of the first marathon is based on a story of a messenger running to Sparta to ask for help during the...

Extend your MacBook screen for free

The latest version of MacOS, Catalina, and iPadOS, 13.x, now allow you to natively extend the display of your computer unto your iPad for free. In the past, I had used paid software to do this. And while the software worked pretty well, native solutions generally work more smoothly. If you are like me, you can never have enough display real estate. I have a 13in MBP and have it maxed out on screen resolution and I still could use more real estate. I have been using my...

Apple repairs, without AppleCare are a scam

Recently I had to get my MacBook pro repaired. I made the rookie error of placing pieces of paper between the screen and keyboard, and closed it. When I got home I realized I had made a huge mistake. The pieces of paper were stapled. And I just happened to have placed the staple at the base of the hinge, where most of the torque would be applied upon closing. You guessed it right; the staple became a fulcrum that punched through the screen and cracked it. I...

What happens when a star and black hole meet?

Stars are some of the most massive bodies in the universe. The mass of the Sun, our closest star, is about 1/3 of a million the mass of the Earth. Think about that. That is huge. Stars, however, are nothing when compared to the mass of a black hole. It's important to separate size and mass. Size refers to the physical dimensions of something. Mass refers to the gravitational force a body effects on another. While the mass of the Sun is 333,000 the mass of the Earth,...
