It has become almost a non-issue these days for large companies to announce a security breach that resulted in bad actors obtaining customer data. And in almost all cases, the data obtained by the bad actors is user-identifiable data such as email address and passwords.
Today, Flipboard announced they were hacked since the middle of 2018 until recently.
Findings from the investigation indicate an unauthorized person accessed and potentially obtained copies of certain databases containing Flipboard user information between June 2, 2018 and March 23, 2019 and April 21 – 22, 2019.

As a result, the perps got away with email addresses and passwords. While the passwords were salted and hashed, they were hashed using an insecure hashing algorithm, SHA-1. And worse, if you connected your Flipboard account with other services (like Twitter), then those tokens were also stolen.
As time goes on, this will be even more normal (unfortunately) and hence an ever more important reason to get a password manager so that at least, if a service you use gets hacked, the perps will not be able to use the hacked data to access your other services.
