Back in April, I wrote how Trump was a Hacker in the true sense of the word. I wrote that Trump had found very effective bugs in our media ecosystem that allowed him to bypass the very safeguards that were created to people like him off the medium. Hacker Trump didn’t stop there, he continued to hack his way through our country’s checks-and-balances. He did this through various tools and methods his predecessors had used in the past, though not all at once, and used them as a sort of Molotov cocktail. From refusing to turn over documents to congress, to suing the very congress to restrict access to those same documents, to firing senate-approved officials, only to have them replaced with temporary flunkies, to utilizing temporary economic tools (like tariffs) as long-term solutions, etc.
Trump’s presidency is only 2.5 years old and through his own, perfectly planned, disruption and chaos, he’s managed to move the moral compass of our media to a point where his lies and obscenities are no longer scandals that would destroy a career. He’s managed to normalize the very behavior any parent would try to keep away from their children. Whereas such behavior was only seen in shows or movies and portrayed by the jerk or anti-hero, it is now on every network as the President. The highest office any person should aspire to reach. An office that required morals, hard work, intelligence and a deep belief in this democratic experiment we call the U.S.
Today, how do you explain to our future Presidents, those still trying to understand how the world works, those whose own compass needs alignment towards the good, that our very own President has none of the attributes he should have? After all, we’re talking about impressionable young minds. Kids who are smart enough to mimic, but not mature enough to understand whether or not it’s wrong.
Perhaps this is the true crux of the hack. The hacking of our future generations towards a world that is less empathetic, less moral, and more concerned with tweets. A world where the U.S. ceases to be the beacon of democracy and falls into being just another number. We must vote him out. Impeachment is not the solution.
