The possibility of going to war with Iran is looming and it has become a stronger possibility as days have progressed. Trump came into office with many promises, and one of them was no more wars.
Since Trump took office, he’s most definitely limited our confrontations with other nations. In Syria, he began to pull US troops from the conflict earlier this year. With North Korea, whether I agree with his approach in dealing with Kim Jong-un or not, he managed to de-escalate the conflict with the Asian nation.
However, ever since a change in the guard of Trump’s cabinet and close senior advisors, in particular known war hawk, John Bolton, the potential for a conflict with Iran has turned into a reality.
Bolton has been making the case for war with Iran by claiming a direct connection between Iran and al Qaeda. The Trump administration has claimed Iran’s revolutionary guards, an arm of Iran’s own military, is a terrorist group. Bolton is using this link in order to allow the the President to use the Authorization for use of Military force against terrorists. This authorization does not require the President to get approval from congress to begin hostilities, so long as they are against known terrorists.
However, as of Thursday, Trump had expressed to the Pentagon chief that he does want the conflict to escalate into hostilities. We can only hope Trump is able to enforce his orders and de-escalate this conflict into a diplomatic solution.
The US has been thrust into conflicts since the September 11 attacks on our nation, and seldom with the real culprits (the 9-11 terrorist all had Saudi Arabian passports, yet we went into war with Iraq). I agree with the President, no more wars.
