Hillary Clinton, and her daughter, Chelsea, are out promoting a new book they co-wrote, The Book of Gutsy Women. Last night they were on the Late Show with Stephen Colbert. Colbert is one of my favorite late-night hosts. He’s very witty and generally well informed.
While the Madam Secretary was there promoting the book, Colbert jumped at the opportunity to inquire about the inquiry of impeachment. She gave her thoughts and you can image what they were, however, what surprised me the most were not what she said, rather what she didn’t say.
The Clintons, like any political family, have a lot of baggage attached to them. As a person of great responsibility, it is always easy for an outsider, myself included, to point back at errors or mistakes that were made. I realize this and will not do that here. That said, running for office, specially that of the President of the United States, is a popularity contest that looks at both; your accomplishments and your likeness; equally. Given the 2016 election, the latter quality may be even more important. Which leads me to my point, the Madam Secretary, for all of her accomplishments, when she appears on TV seems to be the very antithesis of an honest politician, much less a person.
Before I continue, I have to admit I would likely do worse than her at any such appearance, but I know my limits and have never tried to run for public office. The way she behaves is simply odd. Odd in that way that makes you feel repulsed. Her mannerisms seem acted. They seem forced. And most definitely disingenuous. Perhaps she is different in person. If she is, then call on that persona to appear in public.
The way she behaves in front of cameras, in my opinion, is doing her a disservice. Trump may be an incompetent President. Few can argue with that. Just as incompetent as a President, he is at playing to the crowds. I am hopeful that his great ability to play to crowds will be trumped by a more qualified opponent. I am more glad the Madam Secretary is out of the running.
