Maybe the delay won’t pay off.

The delay in sending the articles of impeachment by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to the senate may not have actually paid off. Initially it was thought speaker Pelosi would be able to hold the sending of the articles to the senate until its leadership, namely McConnell, agreed to a more fairer set of rules for the trial.

Earlier this week McConnell said he’d reached an agreement with his fellow republican majority which didn’t include the requests from the democrats and that as such they were ready to begin the trial; as early as Wednesday of next week.

Today, speaker Pelosi announced that she’d be sending said articles to the senate by next week. So what did Pelosi get for her stand-off? I don’t really know. I know that Bolton emerged as a potential witness which would have meant “something”, but with McConnell’s statement about his agreement on the rules of the trial one is left wondering what this whole thing meant.

One thing is certain, that is that Pelosi has yet to overplay or underplay her hand. So while it may not be evident to me what she gained from the delay, we can rest assured that it would not have been for nothing and we’ll soon find out.
