The two party system in the US is such a mirage

In the US, we have this idea there are two political parties. There are the democrats and republicans, liberal and conservatives, elites and working-class, socialists and capitalists, big government and small government, and on, and on. The 2016 election brought this to the foreground more than ever before. We had two choices, a long-time politician, full of dirty laundry, but with a lot of experience; and a new-comer, full of dirty laundry and with many new ideas and cavalierism. The good vs evil, or evil vs good.

The left-wing media was quick to condemn anything Trump said, and praise Clinton; all the while, the right-wing media did the opposite. And if you watched broadcasts from either wing, you’d be forgiven for thinking each believed in polar-opposite ideas. You’d also be forgiven to believe that one of those wings of the media was objective and the other subjective. Finally, while at it, as was the case in 2016, the establishment didn’t want a new-comer to win, Trump. Instead their focus and support was for more established republican candidates.

All of the above, including the disdain for the most popular candidate, seems to be happening again, but this time on the left-side of the wings of the media. If you watch the coverage of Sanders in the three recent primaries, you would have noticed the establishment does not like him. Below is a great montage of the coverage.

The way in which the establishments, not just the left or the right, but both, have behaved and are behaving, is a realization that to them there aren’t two parties; they are two in the same. Of course, if Trump loses, the media will lose one of their major daily contributors, but as far their objectiveness is concerned, they have none. Their only objective, is to generate news when there aren’t any, and to maintain the establishment going.

In the past, the news channels were a place where one could look for the on-goings in the world. And before the 24-hour beat, news casts were trustworthy and respected. This is no longer. These days, news casts, and in particular, news channels, are literally just another form of entertainment clothed as serious news.

It is so sad, that one can watch a comedy clip and gather more information from it, than one can from the very sources it is mocking.
