Are you kidding?

Until the 2016 elections campaign, I knew very little about Trump. Yes, I was aware of his New York real estate business and his TV show (the Apprentice), but I didn't follow him on Twitter, much less read his books. To me, Trump was just another rich guy that sometimes promoted himself by making some odd claims, nothing more. However, with the launch of his campaign, in which he immediately began to assault Mexicans and immigrants alike, I began to take notice. At that point I began to...

And now Iran

As I am certain you have already read, or heard, two days ago, the US military killed one of Iran's most decorated generals, Qassem Soleimani. Soleimani was one of the leaders of Iran's infamous Islamic revolutionary guards. The rationale for the killing of Solimani seems reasonable. According to US intelligence, he was involved in the recent attack on the US embassy in Iraq (its neighboring country) and had plans for further attacks against other US interests, both in Iraq and in other parts of the middle east. The...

2019 Year in Review

What can we say about 2019? At the very least, it was the year of investigations and impeachment. Not only the talk and threat of impeachment for most of the year, and its culmination therein, but also the big reveals of the Mueller investigation and the house intelligence inquiry. Along with that, we published a great series on Life in the EU and how it differs to the US. We talked about how a simple vaccination could have prevented 100 days worth of pain and ache in our...

Well, now what?

The worst-kept surprise of the last three months is here, Trump is now the 3rd-ever President of the US to be impeached. There, he can add that to his list of titles. Impeachment, however, is not the end, only the beginning. I have been talking about this for a long time, and have said that most people think impeachment means removal. They fail understand that it's really only the beginning of a long, and dramatic process. Impeachment is akin to an indictment. It is a formal charge of...

Impeachment inquiry report is out and going forward

The house intelligence committee released its impeachment inquiry report today. The full report is here. The report's conclusions is what you would have expected if you followed and watched the inquiry. The report is broken down into two sections. Section 1 speaks to Trump's misconduct and section 2 speaks to his obstruction of the inquiry. The summarized conclusion of section 1 is: As described in this executive summary and the report that follows, President Trump’s scheme subverted U.S. foreign policy toward Ukraine and undermined our national security in...

Welcome to 1792

The founding fathers of the United States are often considered geniuses, and they were. There is only one constitution in the world that guarantees its citizens the pursuit of happiness, never mind the right to bear arms, protection against illegal seizes and seizures, or the fact that all men are created equal (well, sort of). Like Einstein, standing on the shoulders of giants so that he could see beyond our 20th-century understanding of the Universe, so too were our founding fathers standing on the shoulders of other experiments...

Sondland updated his testimony, now what?

News broke yesterday, that European Ambassador Gordon Sondland updated his testimony after having his "memory refreshed", and that in fact there was an understanding of quid pro quo. Many think this is the smoking gun that will get Trump thrown out of office. While it will certainly get him impeached, the most important part will probably not happen; getting him thrown out. Already, his supporters in the Senate, the jury that would get him thrown out, have switched the narrative from there was no quid pro quo, to...

Hammer, nails, and our biases

Recently I was listening to a podcast where two intellectuals were arguing with each other about the finer points of intention and the meaning of what people say. You can find the podcast here. The podcast was an interview between Sam Harris and Andrew Marantz and began well and good. Marantz is promoting a book in which he documents his experiences while embedded with social media creators and the anti-social people that use those platforms. This post is not about the contents of the book. It is about...

Equally amazing, and dangerous

If you have seen footage of this amazing save by Marc Marquez during practice for this year's Australian GP, you'll most certainly be amazed (as you should). While Marquez has gained a reputation for being able to save the seemingly impossible, this save must be the best one yet. To give perspective, most street riders can only manage a lean angle of about 45 degrees. Most racers can reach about 60 degrees. MotoGP riders, riding the best motorcycles in the world, on the best tires, can average around...

Follow up from the yesterday’s post

Yesterday I posted about how amazing of a feat it was for Mr. Kipchoge to have ran a full marathon in less than 2 hours. Today I wanted to post a video that gives you a much better understanding of what I wrote about. I hope you enjoy it and like me, agree that his feat is inspirational.
