Day 3 of the impeachment hearings, Trump defenders did a good job

I have been watching the impeachment procedures through the eyes of Trump defenders. I know the democrats want to impeach Trump. There is very little I can learn by listening or watching their questioning. Instead, I have been purposely fast-forwarding to the points in the hearings where Trump's defenders question the witnesses. I want to see if I'm missing something. Perhaps, like Devin Nunez claims, this is all a hoax. On a separate note, Nunez cannot, even if he tried, make himself more into a caricature of a...

Day 2 of the impeachment hearings, much of the same

The second day of the public impeachment hearings happened on Friday and as you can expect, it was much of the same show. The democrats talked positively about the former ambassador, Marie Yovanovitch, and questioned her on basic points around Trump's motives behind her firing. While the republicans focused mainly on whether or not the chairman of the committee, Adam Schiff, would have the whistle-blower testify in public. The rational of the people defending Trump is that without the whistle-blower, we would have never found out about any...

Natural resources vs. National wealth

A lot of us take a lot of things for granted. From the simple things in life like being able to breath clean air and depending on safe drinking water. We simply assume these things just happen. That's what the government is there to do. We often forget that while this is true, it is the government's job to make sure there are safety measures in place to avoid a catastrophe, it is us, the people, that put that government in place. Therefore, if we do not vote...

The case for impeachment is clear, but will it be enough?

I watched the entire impeachment procedure from the first day of public hearings and what the diplomats described, Bill Taylor and George Kent, is the very definition of what Trump has claimed it was not, a quid pro quo. The case for a quid pro quo could not be more transparent, as Ambassador Sondland continued to make it a point that it wasn't a quid pro quo even while confirming to Taylor that unless Ukraine's President complied and agreed to begin an investigation into Burisma and the Bidens,...

Sondland updated his testimony, now what?

News broke yesterday, that European Ambassador Gordon Sondland updated his testimony after having his "memory refreshed", and that in fact there was an understanding of quid pro quo. Many think this is the smoking gun that will get Trump thrown out of office. While it will certainly get him impeached, the most important part will probably not happen; getting him thrown out. Already, his supporters in the Senate, the jury that would get him thrown out, have switched the narrative from there was no quid pro quo, to...

Breaking the law has consequences.

I am having such a hard time understanding how one group of seemingly similar people can look at an issue so differently. I am not talking about nuanced issues like immigration, or healthcare for all. I'm taking about an issue that to me, seems simple. The issue is the law and whether or not it was broken. I recall being a teenager and trying to get my driver's license and one of the main takeaways from that experience was "ignorance of the law is not an excuse". When...

The Media is the issue. Part II

Earlier this month, I posted my opinion on how the Media is the issue and a catalyst to the current political climate in which we are now. It is the media that has provided our politicians with a platform to spread their propaganda; either by competing against each other and providing more unnecessary coverage, or by competing against social platforms, and in turn providing unnecessary additional coverage. I realize this has become common nowadays, but Twitter was never created as a way to spread serious ideas. Serious ideas,...

The Media is the issue

Few can call me a fan of our current President. And just as few can call him a good President. Earlier in the week we wrote about impeachment and how the pressure is mounting up. Today I wanted to write about how Trump is continuing to play the media as he squirms his way through questions and his explanations. The current strategy is to face the question of asking for help from a foreign government head on. Much like he did during the 2016 campaign, when he asked...

Hillary, Please Stay Away

Hillary Clinton, and her daughter, Chelsea, are out promoting a new book they co-wrote, The Book of Gutsy Women. Last night they were on the Late Show with Stephen Colbert. Colbert is one of my favorite late-night hosts. He's very witty and generally well informed. https://youtu.be/UzhArb7gVhU While the Madam Secretary was there promoting the book, Colbert jumped at the opportunity to inquire about the inquiry of impeachment. She gave her thoughts and you can image what they were, however, what surprised me the most were not what she...

The pressure is mounting, but will it be enough?

The drums of impeachment are getting louder and louder. Equally, are Trump's best strategies for misinformation and doubt. Trump has never shied away from less-than-truthful comments and even all-out lies. To him, all is fair. If you pay close attention, he began by relying on the oldest of his tricks; there was nothing wrong. He took it one step further by annotating it with "perfect". However, the basis of his strategy is the same one, there is nothing to see here folks. The other strategy is to demonize...
