Star Wars: The raise of Skywalker?

I got a chance to watch the latest installment of the Star Wars saga, the Raise of Skywalker. Rather than giving you the normal movie review you’ve come accustomed to, I’ll share with you the history of the saga. The star wars movies can be split into four categories:

  • The original trilogy
  • The prequel
  • The sequels (of which this is an episode)
  • The stories

The original trilogy was groundbreaking. Until 1977, when the first movie was released (Episode 4: A new Hope), there had never been anything like this. The next movie was “Episode 5: The Empire Strikes Back“, which was released in 1980. The final movie of this original trilogy was release in 1983 as “Episode 6: The Return of the Jedi“. From 1983 to the next trilogy (the prequel), there were many “remasterings“.

16 years later, in 1999, another trilogy began. The trilogy narrated the beginning of Star Wars. Any person you will ask will tell you the same, the movies’ Computer Generated Imagery (CGI), were groundbreaking. For the first time, George Lucas was able to really show audiences what was inside his brain. There were many surprises, both good, and bad. The worlds within his mind were amazing and sprawling. Nothing like the first trilogy which was limited by contemporary technology. However, his brain also contained some ideas which would have done well staying inside. The first movie was named “Episode 1: The Phantom Menace“. The second movie was released in 2002 as “Episode 2: Attack of the Clones“. The movie that tied both trilogies together was “Episode 3: The Revenge of the Sith“, released in 2005, which narrated the culmination of Anakin Skywalker turning to the dark side of the force and emerging as Darth Vader.

10 years later, the first of the sequel arrived. These were the first movies in which the original creator had no involvement. The sequel trilogy began with “Episode 7: The Force Awakens“. The next installment was “Episode 8: The Last Jedi“. This brings us to this movie, “Episode 9: The Raise of Skywalker”.

In between installments of the final trilogy, there were two movies which were not part of the “saga”, but rather named Stories. Those two movies were Rogue One and Solo, released in 2016 and 2018 respectively. Almost as if on queue, the movies were released in opposite order to their sequence in the overall story, but who is counting? 🙂

Episode 9 was a good movie. The story was actually quite good and the screenwriters were able to tie it very well together. The only thing which didn’t make much sense was the title. But otherwise, the movie is definitely worth watching, specially in 3D and at a theater.

If you want to watch the movies in order respective to the saga, this is it:

  1. Episode 1: The Phantom Menace
  2. Episode 2: Attack of the Clones
  3. Episode 3: The Revenge of the Sith
  4. Solo
  5. Rogue One
  6. Episode 4: A New Hope
  7. Episode 5: The Empire Strikes Back
  8. Episode 5: The Return of the Jedi
  9. Episode 7: The Force Awakens
  10. Episode 8: The Last Jedi
  11. Episode 9: The Raise of Skywalker
